Turn the dome green, we shall

Master Model Builder Alex Bidolak has been painting it green over at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Manchester, where a 7 foot tall model of Jedi Master Yoda witnessed the Trafford Center's dome being lit green, to celebrate the new LEGO Star Wars Miniland exhibit. All About Bricks will soon  be announcing which lucky reader will receive two free tickets to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

TRAFFORD CENTRE SET TO TURN IT’S ICONIC DOME GREEN...

STAR WARS legend has taken over Manchester as the North West’s biggest shopping centre turns it’s dome ‘Yoda green’ as it becomes the Theed Royal Palace.

The feat will be in celebration of the arrival of the Legoland Discovery Centre’s new Lego model display that pays homage to the first of the franchise’s films, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

Shaun Rhodes, marketing manager for LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Manchester, comments; “Until we saw the designs for our new Lego models I had never realised how much the Trafford Centre looks like the Theed Royal Palace, it is the perfect home for our brilliant new LEGO® Star Wars™ MINILAND Model Display.”

The Trafford Centre will create this mystical effect with the help of their state-of-the-art LED lighting rig fitted to the dome, allowing centre engineers to choose any shade of colour they want.

From the rolling hills of Naboo, with its ancient domed city and cascading waterfalls, to the treacherous terrain of the desert planet of Tattooine, the incredible landscapes of the movie have been recreated using LEGO bricks forming some of the most stunning displays the attraction has seen since opening in March 2010.

The pop-up walk-through display, which is set to take over Manchester for five months, offers an intergalactic immersion into the sights and sounds of this the first in the film franchise.  Built-in games will offer hands on fun for even the youngest of Padawans who can take part in a thrilling Podrace with the young Anakin Skywalker and help defeat the evil Droid Army in the ‘Droid Destruction’ game.

The Facts:

The display is made up of over 250,000 Lego bricks, is home to 2000 Lego Star Wars minigures and took 2,000 man hours to create!
The Lego Yoda is made up of over 20,000 Lego bricks and is 7 ft tall.  It took two days to create.

The display will be open to the public from Friday 1 February until Sunday 2 June.
